I have one thing to say to you he whispered in my ear “Black Seed Oil.” Sexy or creepy? In this case definitely creepy because it came from someone I hardly knew. The creepy factor was well worth it because it made me ask the question, what is black seed oil and what are the health benefits?
This led to my personal discovery of Black Seed Oil or Black Cumin Oil which has been called the new “Miracle Oil.”
What Is Black Seed Oil?
Black seed oil is extracted from black cumin seeds also known as Nigella sativa (N. sativa). It’s also referred to as Kalonji Oil. It’s said to cure every ailment except death. That’s a huge claim don’t ya think?
New Homeopathic Cure All?
Is this the new homeopathic “miracle” oil? Not! There’s nothing new about it. It’s been widely used as a medicinal plant throughout the world.
It’s said that black seed oil was found in King Tut’s tomb. The seeds also have a long history of folklore usage in medicines and food. It’s considered one of the greatest forms of healing medicine in Islamic literature .
Thymoquinone (I know easy for you to say) is the bio-active ingredient in the oil that scientists attribute the medicinal benefits to.
Hundreds of scientific studies have been conducted on black seed oil so there’s a lot of data to back up some of the claims. It’s also been used for hundreds of years by indigenous cultures. This is why you’ll find so many black seed oil products sold on the internet with social and anecdotal proof from people who use it.
Uses range from curing diabetes, killing cancer cells to growing hair. Check out just some of them below from scientific research, traditional uses and anecdotal stories.
RESEARCHED BENEFITS
Like any other “cure all” miracle homeopathic health solution you may have doubts. But N. sativa is one of the most widely studied plants. There have been numerous studies regarding black seed oil which have shown proven pharmacological properties, most of them attributed to the Thymoquinone (TQ) in it.
Here are just some of the results
Boost Memory and Protect the Brain
A small study of elderly volunteers were given N Sativa and it concluded that it enhanced memory and condition.
Allergies
Studies have shown that Black Seed Oil has antihistamine properties and may be helpful in treating common allergies.
Asthma
Nigella sativasativa and TQ have relatively potent anti-asthmatic effects on the airways of asthmatic patients.
Tired of Being Tired All of The Time?
Psoriasis
External applications of the oil has an antipsoriatic effect that is beneficial in the management of psoriasis.
Cancer
Numerous studies have shown that black seed oil inhibits and kills certain cancer cells such as colon, breast, leukemia and even Glioblastoma the most aggressive type of malignant brain tumor cells with no adverse side effects. Take that Chemo!
Anti-Microbial
Studies have shown that that black seed oil has an inhibitory effect on Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus better known as MRSA.
Heart Health
The TQ in black seed oil has shown to promote healthy cholesterol levels and to normalize blood pressure.
TRADITIONAL USES
Black seeds and its oil has a very long history of use in Indian, Arabian and other cultures to treat the following:
Respiratory Conditions
The oil has been used to treat respiratory disorders such as asthma and bronchitis.
Blood Sugar/Diabetes
Black seed oil is said to be very popular with traditional medicine practitioners for reducing diabetic symptoms. This includes high blood sugar as well as insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes patients.
Be careful if you have diabetes. A sudden drop in blood sugar can be very dangerous.
Skin and Hair
Referred to as on of the most ancient healing balms. The Assyrians in ancient Egypt used it topically to treat inflammation of the skin including rashes, bites, sores as well as nourishing the skin.
Black cumin seed oil has been used for centuries to help increase hair growth.
Scientist say that the same benefits can be gained by taking the oil internally so you may want to try this delivery method first and not run the possible risk of skin irritation from using it topically.
Digestion
Studies show that ingesting black seed oil has preventative and therapeutic effects on gastro-intestinal diseases.
It also reduces stomach pain, cramps, gas, bloating and ulcers.
Mood Enhancer and General Well Being
Black Seed Oil has been described as a “glance of light” because of it’s mood lifting effect. The world definitely needs more mood lifting these days.
ANECDOTAL BENEFITS
Let’s face it, the majority of people don’t read scientific studies, don’t live or study different cultures they just want to hear how it works for other people and how it may work for them. If that’s you then check these out.
More Energy
People say it gives them more energy, some even say for long periods of time.
Fat Loss
“The fat disappears when done in tandem with the Keto diet and intermittent fasting.”

PRICE
When I searched Amazon for Black Seed oil 173 different products came up in different forms, mainly strait oil and oil in gel caps. Prices ranged from $13.00 to $65.00 claiming different concentration of the bio-active ingredient Thymoquinone.
HINT: Pay close attention to the testimonials when making a decision.
BLACK SEED OIL GEL CAPS vs LIQUID
Liquid
Purchasing the straight oil scares me because my friend ordered it (not sure what brand) and she said it smelled and tasted so bad that she had to throw it away. She also said she had issues with the horrible taste “repeating” on her all day.
Because of this bad experience she claims that she won’t ever try it again and I hate to see her miss out on all of the amazing benefits.
Since there are so many different brands out there with different claims regarding taste I’m sure there has to be a palatable alternative, so don’t forget to look at a lot of product reviews.
Get Your Daily Boost of Energy
Gel Caps
This is how I usually take it because it doesn’t have the strong taste that the “straight” oil has the reputation of having. But if you take it in this form it won’t be absorbed until it reaches your stomach. As a result, you may miss some of the absorption benefits on its way to your stomach.
I take my chances with the gel caps because I continue seeing the benefits of mental clarity and increased energy levels.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Whatever the side effects are, I don’t think that they can compare with prescription side effects. You know what I’m talking about if you’ve recently watched T.V. It seems to me that every other commercial is for some sort of prescription and the side effects are extensive and scary.
You need to be aware that some of the benefits others are experiencing such as lowered blood sugar may result in negative impacts for people with existing low blood sugar levels.
Tired of Being Tired All of The Time?
SO MANY BENEFITS
So many benefits, so little time (just kidding about the time). Now it’s your turn to try black seed oil if you haven’t yet. With all of the scientific research, history and testimonials, the oil has got to live up to at least some of the hoopla.
I know it has for me. I experience increased mental clarity and energy within a half hour after taking it. Maybe it’s the placebo effect, but it doesn’t matter to me as long as I feel it.
Please share below about your experience with the new/old “miracle oil.”
